Puma pays homage to Japanese national holiday Marine Day.

The Japanese national holiday, Marine Day (or Ocean/Sea Day), celebrates the importance of the ocean to Japan as a country. As an Island nation, the Japanese give thanks to the ocean’s bounty, as seen in 19th century Ukiyo-e; a movement in Japanese art. The Ukiyo-e trend was prevalent from the 17th - 19th century and depicted scene from history, sumo wrestlers, female beauty, landscape and everything in-between. The 19th century saw landscape scenes flourish and in particular, the work of Katsushika Hokusai, the artist responsible for ‘The Great Wave off Kanagawa’; a woodblock print that the entire world is now familiar with.
